Lucky Strike is a very well established tobacco brand. The brand it self is owned by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco company. This brand has a long history and in the 30's it was the best selling cigarette in the whole US. In the initial days they were targeting only men buy later on they have changed their strategies to include women as well in their target audience. For this reason they needed to change the package colors because they were unappealing for women. As a marketing twist they linked the color change to WWII and they were saying that they give up the copper for the war efforts.
